UK commercial vehicle production increased alongside demand for electric vans in 23
The figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has shown that the UK’s Commercial Vehicle production grew 17% across 2023, and that production figures are now 51% higher than they were in 2019, pre pandemic.
With production of commercial vehicles between January and November 2023 the highest it has been since 2010, the SMMT has suggested that this is in part due to the increased availability of microprocessors, in part due to the increased investment in the manufacturing sector, which has meant that more factories are now producing vehicles.
At the same time, demand for electric commercial vehicles increased by 21% in 2023, equating to more than £2 Billion spent by businesses on new electric vans over the year. These new eLCVs will be crucial to helping the UK decarbonise, and at the same time, are predicted to help the UK’s businesses remain mobile in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
